How do you teach your child to pray? We teach and show Hyzyd how to pray since he’s still a baby . It doesn’t take a crisis to find reasons to pray. We can pray about anything. We pray when Hyzyd wants to buy more Cars 2 character toys or even the desire of friends who wants to buy xbox games. In this way, he’ll learn the value of going to God with the little things as well as the big things.
Here are few ways we did to teach Hyzyd to pray:
1. Be a pray-er ourselves and ask Hyzyd to pray with us (usually before sleeping and after waking up).
2. Help Hyzyd to see things around as visual aids to prompt prayer. When we see ambulance speeding down the street, I ask Hyzyd to send a prayer heavenward for the emergency room doctors who will treat the injured people and safety of the ambulance drivers.
3. Pray conversationally. We encourage Hyzyd to pray to God like the way he talks to us (his parents) . Even using short expressions like Help me God or Thank you Lord are already wonderful prayers to our Heavenly Father.
Teaching Hyzyd to pray is the best way to guide him to have closer relationship with our heavenly Father. God is HYzyd’s invaluable source of help and grace for the rest of his life.
