His father, my father, our fathers

Father’s Day is just around the corner- to be celebrated on the third Sunday of June, right? Here in Thailand, we’ll celebrate Father’s Day on December 5 during the King’s birthday. Anyway what’s important is there’s a special day to give honor to our fathers and let them know how special they are.

For Couples Corner, the hostess Marce Liz gave the participants a chance to present to the blogosphere our dear fathers . I’ll present to you my father-in-law, Tatay Leonardo:

I can’t tell you much about my father-in-law. I haven’t lived nor even slept for a night in their house because after the wedding we flew back here in Thailand but according to my hubby what I observed about him is what he really is. He’s soft-spoken and a silent-type of person. When I visited them before, he won’t talk much to me but would busy himself in the kitchen to prepare something for me. I believe that he’s a good father for he raised my hubby as a gentleman, industrious, diligent and wonderful person from inside and out.

Meet my everbeloved Papa Ben.

He’s the BEST dad in the whole wide world. I’m soooo grateful to God for having him as my father. He’s my bestfriend. With my Papa, I could tell him anything from crushes to tough decision-makings. He’s strict and disciplinarian but in a way that’s worth of your respect. He never restricted me of having boyfriend in high school because he’s confident that he teaches me the right thing and it’s up to me to make the decision, if it’s the right time or not. I felt so blessed of having a father who trusted me in this area and I never fail him. When I’m already in college and he noticed that no one dares to visit me for courting purpose, he asked me if I have a crush. Did my crush noticed me? Aren’t they attracted to his daughter? Did I scare my suitors and since then my father always teased me…LOL! It’s just his way of telling me that it’s OK for him if I will decide to have a boyfriend. That way helps and paves the way for me to accept a suitor in the house-only my hubby!..LOL! The rest went to our house without my permission!

When I agreed to be Josh’s girlfriend (my hubby) my father is the first one who knew. I was sooo touched when he prayed for me right then when he knew that I already have a boyfriend and declared blessings for our relationship.

When I’m still in elementary, my father is the one who made my speeches for contest or just to present in school. He’s my trainor in declamation, oration, impromptu speeches and debate . When I will be sent to discrict, division and regional contest, my father woke up early to prepare a special breakfast and snacks for me. He’s always there for me even when I first got my job. He’s the one who accompanied me in my new working place to make sure I’ll be safe.

My friends used to ask me if is it hard to be the eldest of 14 children. Honestly, it’s not easy to be the eldest but my father eased the burden. Everytime my mom gave birth, my father is the one who took care of my mom and do the laundry. We even have special meal everytime mom gave birth. He’s a good cook and we love it when he took over the kitchen area. We never felt left out everytime a new member of the family came because we’re showered with so much love.

When I got married, it’s my father who helped coordinate the wedding preparations. He’s the one who designed and reproduced our wedding invitations. When I gave birth, my father with my mom and youngest sister flew here in Thailand to personally take care of me and taught my hubby what dishes are best for me. I love my father so much and it hurts me to think in the future when he needs to leave us from this life.

Words are not enought to describe my father. I’m forever grateful to God for giving me to the BEST DAD in the universe! Making this post makes me miss him so much!

  1. Your FIL is Josh's replica, sis…ehehe. your dad is a great man for raising a wonderful daughter.

happy father's day to your dads.

  2. Most of the time we all run out to our mommy from now and then. Don't we often forget to run to our dad and shower him with endless kisses and love when happy? Father’s Day is approaching we give the excellent time to show our dads that they are indeed special.

  3. Naiiyak naman ako sa post mo Marce, kasi parang naaala ko ang father ko. Miss ko na tuloy siya, kahit alam kong di ko na siya makikita uli. Sa isip ko buhay pa siya at nasa tabi tabi lang. It's so hard to lose a parent. You are such a lucky girl for having a wonderful father. Take care.

  4. aww… the moment that he prayed for you right there and then was so touching… I can see that you're indeed blessed with a very loving family… God's hands are visibly working in your family… I'm so happy for you sis… seems like you've got an almost perfect life… (that's because we know there's no such thing as perfect, but if there is… you have it!)
